Five Workouts, One Tuesday

Weights before sunrise, bike commutes sandwiching a Peloton session, then one more commute home. Not glamorous. Just a full day of stacking movement wherever it fits.

Five Workouts, One Tuesday

The day in order

It started with weights at 8am. Nothing fancy. Squats, lunges, overhead press, bench, long crunches. 3, 5, and 10 reps depending on the movement. All with 25lb weights. That's the last session at this weight. Next week I move to 30lb. Nine minutes of work. Done.

Then I rode to work. 4.1 miles, 22 minutes of moving time. Average watts: 87W. That's not training, that's transportation. But it counts.

Back home briefly, then onto the Peloton at 10:45am for a 20-minute Classic Rock ride with Jenn Sherman. This one I actually pushed. Averaged 182W, normalized power of 194W, and peaked at 357W. Total output: 219 kJ. Ranked 218 out of 2,688 on the leaderboard for that class, which I'll take.

Then back out. Another 3.5 miles in the early afternoon, 160 feet of elevation, average 105W. That one earned an achievement. Then the ride home to close the day: 3.8 miles, 16 minutes, 104W average.

What it adds up to

  • Total riding distance: roughly 15.5 miles across four rides
  • Total elevation (outdoor rides): about 223 feet
  • Combined ride work (kJ): approximately 552 kJ
  • Plus one strength session

Why this matters

None of these workouts are impressive on their own. That's kind of the point. When you're running a company, an event like TheBayRide, and a household, the training doesn't always come in clean 90-minute blocks. Some days it comes in 20-minute pieces wedged between other obligations.

The Peloton session is the only one where I was actually chasing watts. The commutes are just movement. The weights are a slow build, 25 to 30 to whatever comes next. I don't love that it looks like this. But I'd rather log five imperfect sessions than skip them waiting for the perfect one.

TheBayRide is 135 miles around the Bay. That doesn't happen on one good day of training. It happens because of a lot of days that look exactly like this one.
